In general recovery is the ability to live in the present without being overwhelmed by the thoughts and feelings of the past. We need strength to recognize what is no longer serving us, the balance of being aware of our emotions enough to manage them in a way that is gentle, honest, and wise, and we need to honor our past and present in order to move into the future with grace. It's imperative to find a therapist that is trained, certified, and does ongoing education in order to move through trauma in a safe manner that does not have you in a trauma loop. From my own personal experience this is dark, scary, and isolating. There are some amazing evidenced based therapies out there and will share in the coming weeks!
